Earlier last year I wrote about the various questions that you can internally answer to provide you clarity in embarking on any new endeavor that ranged from a value question, ‘should I do this?’ to a motivation question, ‘Do I want to do this?
As 2017 begins to spread her wings, it would be wise to use questions to map out your success for this promising year. It is possible that this simple exercise could change your career if you open your heart and mind to the profound implications of these questions. There are only three questions that you need to answer to set in motion the mining of your unlimited potential. The first question is,
Where have you been?
This question will give the opportunity to think about your experience, skill set, and your track record that will reinforce your prerequisites for your aspirations. The next question would be to ask yourself,
Where am I going?
You have heard it said that if you don’t know where you are going then any road will take you there. My saying is if you don’t know where you are going, then how do you know when you arrive? It is essential to have a clear vision of what you want your future to look like.
The words of wisdom are that everyone can see but very few of us have true vision.
As we begin our year take the time to chart what you expect to receive, what you will commit to doing, and what you will share with others. Lastly and perhaps the most difficult to conduct a gut check by asking this question,
Why don’t I possess that which I seek?
The reality is that there are reasons we have not reached our predetermined goals. Many times, there are easy solutions such as sharpening our skills, formulated better habits, and managing ourselves more diligently. However, there are impediments, roadblocks, and challenges that force us to reevaluate how we are operating in our careers. The required changes must originate from within each of us. It is my hope that you reach all of your goals that you set for yourself this year and give us an opportunity to be part of your success. My mantra for 2017 is to Think Big, Act Bold and Be Optimistic.
